Request an item
Looking for something the library doesn't have? We have 3 options to help get you what you want:
Request a Purchase
You can fill out a request form for an item you'd like the library to purchase by coming to the front desk. You can also log into the catalog using your library card number and phone number to view your account and place requests from there. A member of the staff will contact you if we are unable to purchase the item or you will be notified when it is ready to be picked up. This method may take some time, as the staff must order and process the item before it is ready to circulate.
The fastest way to obtain an item you are wanting is to use a TexShare card. This is a card that can be used in any participating library across the state to check out materials. Each library sets their own rules concerning what they will allow TexShare card holders to check out. You can find participating libraries and see their lending policies here.
To get a TexShare card, you must:
- Have had a card with the White Settlement Library for at least 6 months.
- Have a library card in good standing (not expired and no fines on you or your spouse or children's accounts, if applicable).
If you are eligible for a TexShare card, you can fill out an application at the front desk. Cards must be renewed every 6 months to ensure that you are still in good standing before borrowing from another library. To see what libraries near you have the item you're looking for, perform a search in www.worldcat.org.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
If you don't want to travel to another library for your materials, or if it can't be found nearby, we can search for the item in libraries across the country and and have it shipped here. You will be charged a small fee for the cost of mailing the item; this fee will be equivilant to the cost of two pounds of postage, which is currently $3.02.
When you are finished with the item, we will mail it back to the original library for you. Fines for ILLs returned late are $0.50 a day.
